F16
IIAF purchased 160 F-16A on October 27th, 1976, with a follow-up order of an additional 140, A total of 300 aircraft. Parts and maintenance equipment arrived in Iran as early as 1978, and ground personnel were given training (ground support equipment was later sold to Pakistan). However, the new Government canceled the order in 1979 before the scheduled arrival of the first two F-16s; later, this cancellation brought the unit cost of each aircraft to a much higher price tag. However, General Dynamics found a new buyer for Iranian F-16s, Israel’s air force.
